The Jane — 437 Memorial Drive

A MIXED USE REDEVELOPMENT

Grant Park is a 131-acre green space and recreational area and is the fourth-largest park in the city. At the heart is the oldest city park in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as the Victorian neighborhood surrounding it. The Jane is among the first-movers to revitalize the Memorial Drive/Grant Park retail corridor.  What started as a neglected warehouse was converted into a thriving mix use development of offices, a buzzing coffee house, restaurants, and retail.

The Jane is completely consistent with the urban setting, blending today’s efficiencies with a period-specific design that takes advantage of many of the features of the original building, which once served as an elevator factory, and features high-ceilings, expansive windows offering abundant natural light, the original sky lights and deep bay depths, among other architectural features.

“The Jane is one of the best adaptive re-use projects I have seen,” said Rick Hudson, who serves as the Land Use and Zoning Chair for the Grant Park NPU. “The architect, Alan Hoss, who lives in Grant Park, has done a great job in mixing historic preservation with adaptive re-use, so that the building retains some of its historic character and complements the design of other buildings in the area.”
